Judy Gordon 2/11/09 - Dr. De Smet PDF Print E-mail
It is a beautiful day here is Jackson, Wyoming, a bit cold but the sun is bright and shinning which makes me happy.

I overnight in Chicago and arrive in Brussels at 7:30 am.  I plan to do a lot of relaxing and sleeping on the way.  For those of you that know me well, you would know that my perfectionism would have and did kick in last night doing my last minute packing.  So I was up late last night, too embarrassed to say how late. I know that as soon as I sit on the plane I will be out like a light. I will be having Hip Resurfacing Arthroplasty on both hips at the same time by the world foremost hip resurfacing surgeon, Dr. Koen De Smet  http://www.hip-clinic.com/en/html/home_en.html .  Although this surgery has been approved by the FDA in this country for only 3 years, Dr. De Smet has been performing this procedure since 1997.  He has done over 3000 (more then twice as many as the next experienced surgeon) and is considered the “master and teacher” by surgeons over the world.  I am completely confident I will be in the best possible hands.

The surgery is February 11th at the Jan Palfijn Hospital in Gent.  I will leave the hospital on February 15th to go to the Villa Cento Passi  rehab center.  It is basically a family style hotel that houses lodging for all Dr. De Smet’s hip patients.  Thet give me land and water physical therapy twice a day, visits from the doctor, nurse and physical therapist, wonderful meals and the company of other “surface hippies”.   Check out this link http://www.villacentopassi.com/fla/index.html.

I am hoping that if my rehab goes as planned, I’ll be able to spend the last week walking around town and doing a little sightseeing and eating chocolate.

I depart Belgium for Minneapolis on March 10th where I will complete my rest with my family who will be taking good care of me. I will be back in Jackson the first week of April.

I have had a huge amount of support from my family and friends. Thanks to you I am going to have this done knowing that I am loved and safe. I promise to keep you all updated after my surgery of my progress. If I don’t reply to your emails right away, I am sure you will understand.

Love Judy Gordon

....stay tuned
