In 2022, I began having pain and stiffness in my right hip. Although X-rays showed good space in my joints, an MRI revealed a large defect where no cartilage was present. After conservative treatments were unable to relieve my pain, a number of surgeons suggested that I get a hip replacement. As I researched different options for a hip replacement (surgeons, bearing surfaces, stem lengths, etc.), I ran across some videos on hip resurfacing. As I was (at the time) a 41 year-old active weightlifter, I decided that hip resurfacing was the best option for me.
In August of 2023, I traveled to Belgium to have a ceramic on ceramic ReCERF hip resurfacing performed by Dr De Smet. Now, almost two years later, I am quite satisfied with the result. Just yesterday I squatted 375 lbs for a set of 3 repetitions, which is more than I had ever lifted prior to having my hip resurfaced. In many respects, I am in the best shape of my life.
I cannot say enough positive things about Dr De Smet. Not only did he do a fantastic job resurfacing my hip, but he has answered all of the questions I had for him as I recovered from my operation. If you need a hip replacement, you should definitely consider having Dr De Smet do a resurfacing for you.
